Discover the Upstate

The Greenville and Spartanburg area, which is a part of the northwestern region of the state and is often known as The Upstate, has seen exponential growth in recent years. Greenville sits atop the most populous cities in the upstate, sitting as the sixth largest city in South Carolina. Incorporated in 1831, the city sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains while Spartanburg, known as the “Hub City,” also was incorporated that same year.

The Upstate is a nature lover’s dream because of its many parks, trails and outdoor experiences and is home to Clemson University, the second-largest college in the state. The area houses BMW’s sole manufacturing facility in North America, which produces about 1,500 vehicles per day. Also, global restaurant chain Denny’s is headquartered in Spartanburg. The Mobile Attic can help with your moving and storage needs. Our convenient and affordable options give you less stress about your move and more time to discover why Charleston is home to many.

Moving to the Upstate

Whether you’re moving across the state or within the area, the Upstate has many options for South Carolinians. Because of its location and opportunities, living in Greenville tends to be higher than any other area. The city has continued to flourish because of its downtown, performing arts centers, great schools and being located about halfway between major cities Atlanta and Charlotte. Five Forks, a growing suburb of Greenville, is one of the better places to live in the area and state because of its friendly community and rural feel.

Known more for its college life, Clemson is a great place for young professionals because of its nightlife and outdoor activities. Simpsonville and Taylors offer residents a suburban feel with a plethora of parks to enjoy while Greer has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state. Whether you’re moving to Mauldin because of its affordability, live in a more populous city in Spartanburg or settle in the outskirts and choose Anderson, the Mobile Attic offers moving and storage solutions to all of the Upstate. Things to Do

Whether you’re traveling to the Upstate or are already in the area, there are a variety of events throughout the year. Euphoria, a multi-day culinary and music festival, draws thousands of tourists to get a taste of Greenville. Since 2006, the September event blends cooking demonstrations and tastings, wine seminars and good tunes. Since 2003, Artisphere has been bringing creativity to the area by combining arts and culture to feature hundreds of artists who sell their pieces of art. The Upstate hosts a plethora of fairs throughout the year, always giving residents a reason to get out of the house. Held in May, the Fair at Heritage Park in Simpsonville is an area favorite because of the thrilling rides, unique shows and tasty treats offered. Among other notable fairs are the Great Anderson County FairUpper South Carolina State Fair and Piedmont Interstate Fair.

For exotic car enthusiasts, the Euro Auto Festival brings in more than 400 European vehicles throughout the country into the Upstate. Make sure to catch a concert, performance or event at the Peace Center or Bon Secours Wellness Arena, where global artists and top events are held each month. Greenville and Spartanburg’s Greek festivals and SpartOberfest are typically multi-day events showcasing different cultures with live music, dancing, children’s rides and of course, food. Other events to consider going to are the South Carolina Peach Festival in Gaffney, fall for Greenville and Chautauqua, which brings history alive with costume-performed shows by nationally acclaimed historical interpreters. Residents can cap the year off at the Holiday Lights Safari, a Christmas-themed light display that has shined in the area for decades.

Places to Visit

Once you’re done locking your Mobile Attic, set your eyes on the many adventures the area has to offer. If you are a nature lover, there may not be a better paradise than Falls Park on the Reedy. Located in downtown Greenville, the two-acre park features waterfalls, walking trails, scenic stonework and public art installations. The 22-mile Prisma Health Swamp Rabbit Trail also sees lots of traction for exercise enthusiasts. With hundreds of unique animals patrolling the premises, the Greenville Zoo is a place for everyone to enjoy wildlife. For more wildlife, be sure to discover the historic Lake Conestee Nature Preserve, a 406-acre state-designated Wildlife Sanctuary.

For parents, The Children’s Museum of the Upstate is a must on places to go because it offers 20 exhibit galleries, including a traveling exhibit hall, outdoor interactive exhibit spaces and an outdoor programming space. The building amasses about 80,000 square feet, is the country’s seventh largest museum and the only Smithsonian-affiliated children’s museum. Make sure to visit the Liberty Bridge and historic Poinsett Bridge in Travelers Rest. The Liberty Bridge sits atop Falls park while the latter is believed to be the oldest surviving bridge in the state. Caesars Head State Park gives visitors more than 60 miles of difficult hiking trails, various waterfalls and positions you about 3208 feet above sea level.

Spend more time visiting the BMW Zentrum, which gives you access to view the BMW factory plant and see how vehicles are assembled. Our portable storage units provide less stress on your upcoming renovation or move. By getting a Mobile Attic, you will be one step closer to your next adventure.

Storage for College Students

The Upstate has a plethora of colleges and universities, but none more prominent than Clemson University. Founded in 1889, the school is considered one of the top universities in the country with the 1,400-acre campus sitting in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located in the heart of Greenville, Furman University is the oldest private school in the state. Wofford College is nestled in Spartanburg and known for its strong academic programs. The University of South Carolina Upstate and Anderson University offer a variety of majors and are considered two of the top nursing schools in the state.

The Mobile Attic offers convenient storage solutions for incoming freshman, seasoned seniors and all students in between. If you’re living in a dorm with roommates extra space can be hard to find. That’s why we offer portable storage units that we can deliver to your college or university. For out-of-town students, consider getting a storage unit so you can avoid hauling all of your belongings with you for winter and summer break. Then, when you return, we can redeliver your property to your institution for convenient unloading.
