Cleaning Up Clutter for Spring

by Mar 8, 2019

With spring comes renewal, and for some, that means cleaning up their homes, consolidating clutter and unnecessary items. If that sounds like you, we’ve got some tips this year for getting your home looking like new!

First, decide what you need and don’t need. Part of handling clutter is finally tossing out those vintage newspapers from over a decade ago. Sure, they might hold some sentimental value, but if they take up space and provide housing to pests, they’re more trouble than they’re worth. Therefore, make decisions like this for a stored itinerary. If you really can’t let go of your inventory, you can consider a mobile storage pod, but generally disposing of unneeded things is a good idea.

With this in mind, you can approach cleaning and storage more tactfully.

1 – Go Room by Room

Taking on a whole apartment or house is a big task, no matter the size. Therefore, we suggest cleaning room by room, scheduling them for certain days. This way, you can tackle your task in a more organized fashion, without the burden of approaching the job all at once. It also allows you to plan around each room with greater efficiency, giving you time to decide what you want to do with it.

2 – Re-Organize Furniture

You can adjust your rooms by shifting furniture around. Doing so might reveal clutter you weren’t even aware of, while also giving your room a fresh look. You might also consider storing older furniture, investing in something new.

3 – Invest in Better Storage

Mobile storage is one option for removing clutter from your basement, attic, and/or living areas. You can also opt for things which decrease clutter around the house, like a rack for kitchenware, plastic tubs for towels, and shelves for decoration. Sometimes, it’s not that you have too many things, it’s that you have nowhere to put them.

4 – Have a Sale

What better way to clean out the home than also make a bit of profit? The best part? Long gone are the days of the traditional yard sale – you can sell your unwanted cluttered through online services like GumTree or eBay. Or, if you’re so inclined, you can give away things you don’t need. You can also give unwanted inventory to charity.

This is a good way to clean and remove clutter, especially if said clutter is still useful but you no longer want it.

5 – Clean Safely

As you declutter and spruce up each room, remember to practice proper safety. Look out for dirt and dust kicked up while cleaning and try steam versus chemical cleaners where necessary. Always keep your home properly ventilated and don’t overtax yourself if you’re working in small spaces.

Spring is a time for renewal, so give your home a fresh new look following some of our spring-cleaning tips. But if you’re still surrounded by armies of clutter, you can always invest in mobile storage for efficient solutions.
