Start Your Home Cleaning Right

by Mar 5, 2021

It’s that time of year again where you get the cleaning bug. Sprucing up the home, especially since we’re home a lot these days, is a great way to feel more organized. From removing clutter to finding things you lost, sometimes organization is all you need. Mobile Attic knows the importance of a pleasant, enclosed space, so we’ll help you start right this year with some essential tips.

Step One: Room by room

Whether apartment, housing, or business, never think of cleaning as a “do it all at once” kind of project. That’s a good way to tire yourself out. Instead, focus on one room at a time over the course of a week (or however long you need). That helps you focus and treats the task like several hills to climb, versus a giant mountain.

Step Two: Move things as necessary (with help)

When you’re cleaning, be sure to move furnishings so you can access areas typically harder to reach. They can build up dust and debris faster than you’d realize. But, be sure you get help with heavier objects. If it’s too difficult, don’t put yourself at risk. Unless it is absolutely necessary the corner under your couch needs cleaning, you can leave it. Personal safety is more important.

Step Three: Use chemical cleaners safely

So now you’re onto bigger things like cleaning surfaces, bathrooms, and kitchens with store bought chemical cleaners. If you need additional space, you can use a mobile pod to put them away safely. And that’s the key word: safe.

While not typically a hazard, remember that excess chemical cleaners produce fumes. If combined, they can be dangerous in smaller spaces (like a bathroom). So, be mindful of that and use cleaners in a limited capacity. For additional caution, read the packaging to remain aware of hazardous chemical combinations.

Step Four: Toss out junk and what you don’t use

This is tough one. We all feel attached to our property over time. You’ll fix that old CRT one day, right? That toaster works – sometimes. It’s easy for clutter to build up this way, but you’ve got to be honest with yourself. If it’s no longer useful or it’s been in a closet for longer than a year, it’s time to toss it.

It’ll free up space in your home and make you feel better. If you don’t want to toss it (or it’s environmentally unsafe to do so) consider giving it away (or selling, if possible).

Extra step: Use mobile pods

Running out of space for clutter and trash? Or just need something to help organize? Mobile pods come in handy. They’re essentially a storage unit you can have taken to your living space for however long you need. Basically, it makes the steps above easier if you’re trying to toss out clutter or reorganize your home space.

We’ve got more on that in the next article! For now, if you have questions about what mobile pods can do for you, contact us at Mobile Attic.
